A
Brief History of Barrhaven
(from "Barrhaven, an Ottawa Neighbourhood,"
by Mike Epp)
Pioneer families such as the Burnetts, the Houlahans,
the Watters, the Nesbitts, the Clothiers and many others
settled in and around the Fallowfield and Jockvale areas
of what is now Barrhaven.

In 1957, Mr. Barr purchased some land and founded
"Barrhaven." Since then, many of the original
farms in the area have been subdivided and built on.
- Michael Joseph Kennedy, the grandson of William
Kennedy, built the Kennedy house in Barrhaven
between 1903 and 1905 during their stay in the
original farmhouse.
- Many of the streets in Barrhaven, such as
Kennevale, were named after the early settlers.
- Jockvale road, also known as Forced Road, was
originally cut by the Indians. Many men, women,
children, Indians and soldiers traveled this
route by foot in the early 1800's. Amazing isn't
it?
