Barrhaven BIA Boundary expansion Approved

September 2011

Last week, the reponse period for the expansion closed. The City did not receive any objections. Therefore, the expansion will proceed. Please review our detailed Expansion Prospectus. We are the highest growth area in the City.  Our boundaries were created almost 6 years ago during the formation period of the BIA.  Since then, there has been significant growth and we are to see even more commercial growth over the next 5 years.  We are the “Barrhaven” BIA and therefore represent all businesses here.  The businesses that were not part of our BIA are now able to benefit from the programs we run. The entire business community benefits from the wide-scale branding initiatives we undertake so therefore all businesses should be funding these programs.

Our commitment to maintaining current and accurate market research data by way of bi-annual updates, in addition to our many programs; from area-marketing through advertising and events to and for primary and secondary market areas, gateway signs branding and highlighting our businesses, graffiti removal for all commercial properties, online and printed Business Directories- these are but a few of the tangible benefits to each and every Barrhaven business.

Please contact our office with questions or for more information.

Report on City Planning presentation for local businesses

On April 19th, City of Ottawa staff gave BIA members a fulsome presentation in response to our recent queries regarding;

  1. allowable uses in the commercial pockets within the Prestige Business Park Lands (vacant land west of Strandherd from the City snow dump to the 416 interchange) and,
  2. the need to free up land to house Target/Lowes type regional-draw businesses close to the commercial core in a timely fashion so as to not lose these opportunities to adjacent, competing business districts.
